I was born in Grand Island, NE on March 5, 1956.  Being the first girl in a family of 3 boys at the time, I was obviously very special right from the beginning.  Or at least that is what my brothers have always whined about.  Little did I know that being the only girl was something that I was going to experience for a very long time.  When the 5th kid came along - another boy - should have been an indicator.

 

We lived in North Platte until I started the 3rd grade, then onto Grand Island which remained my hometown for most of my life.  I graduated from Grand Island Senior High in 1974.  College was not something that was encouraged, really not even discussed, so off to work I went.  

 

In 1975, I married Sid French.  We did the typical new couple stuff…worked, bought a new car, bought an old house, got a cat.  Life was good, and fun.  Life got better though in August of 1978 when Travis was born, followed by Eric in September of 1981.  I was fortunate to be able to be a stay home mom for many years and we did the typical family stuff…bought a new house, herded all the neighborhood kids in and out of the yard, did PTA and field trips.  Life was good, and fun.  

 

Sometimes life throws hurdles your way though.  Sid and I went our separate ways in 1992 so after doing some very part time retail work while married for the great discount, I had to pull up my big girl panties and get a real job.  That was the beginning of my career in banking/finance.  Over the years I got to experience many aspects of banking from being a teller to lending to investments; small hometown bank to large corporate bank.  

 

In 1995, I was so lucky to marry Tim Luchsinger.  With this marriage I also gained 2 more boys, my stepson’s Adam and Jon.  Over the years we had kind of a revolving door of boys; one off to college, another moves in, a couple more off to college, another moves in.  Life was good, and fun.  

 

Finally, in 2011 - a girl joined the family when Jon married Kiley.  I was no longer the only female in a world of males!  Then Yesmina married Adam in 2014 and Ursula married Eric in 2018.  The playing field is getting a little more even.  Not done with the boys though as a couple of young fellows have joined the family in the form of grandsons.  Reid was born to Jon and Kiley in 2015 and Miles followed him in 2017.  

 

In 2023, after 58 years living in Grand Island, we made the move to Fremont, NE after Tim’s retirement from the City of Grand Island.  We built a house, sort of downsized, and headed on down the road.  We are in a smaller town but have Omaha just a short drive away.  We are closer to family (especially those grandkids!) but not next door, a perfect arrangement.   Life is good, and fun!
