About Me
I was born on December 14th, 1972 in Prescott, Arizona. I am the baby of the family and have 3 older siblings, one sister and two brothers.
When I was three years old, my family took a vacation to Colorado. After the trip, we went home, packed up, and purchased a 40 acre organic
farm in Paonia, CO.
When I was 13, we moved to Durango, CO. I went to high school in Ignacio, CO and graduated from Fort Lewis College in 1991 with a BS in Environmental Biology and a minor in Chemistry. My plan was to work for the Division of Wildlife or the Forest Service, but life had other plans
for me! Between my freshman and sophomore year of college, I was lucky enough to meet the love of my life, Cory.
After graduating from college in 1994, Cory and I moved to Aurora for a short stint. I worked as a seasonal park ranger at Cherry Creek State Park. Unfortunately, I was unable to obtain another seasonal job until the next summer, so we decided to try our luck in Farmington, NM. In Farmington, my minor in Chemistry came in handy for an Environmental Chemist position. I spent the next 10 years sampling and analyzing oil and gas samples for contaminants. During our stint in Farmington, we created two amazing humans! Calvin was born in 2001 and Sienna was born in 2003.
We moved from Farmington to Colorado Springs for a year. A health scare made us decide to move down to Texas to be closer to family, so in 2005, we moved to Allen Texas. I obtained a position as a lab manager at another environmental laboratory. I decided to go back to school to earn my alternative teaching certification because there was a shortage of high school science teachers and I wanted to spend more time with my kids.
I started teaching high school science in 2009. I taught several different subjects, including Environmental Science, Biology, Advanced Plant and Soil Science, and Aquatic Science. Our summers were spent away from Texas and boondock
camping around the country in a 23ft airstream camper.
We wanted to get out of the city so we moved back to my home town of Paonia in 2017. Cory built our house, with some help from Calvin, the first winter we were here. I worked remotely at a charter school until I switched careers for the 3rd time and am now managing the campus of a solar technical school right next door to our house.
